A World Leader in Blindness Prevention
All eyes on Israel
Over the last 10 years, preventable blindness rates in Israel have been cut by more than half — a statistic unmatched anywhere else in the world.
The secret to their visionary success can be largely attributed to scientific advancements made in prevention and treatments, and making them available to everyone through their national medical system. Early prevention and treatment are also encouraged through community-based programs such as diabetes clinics.
Preventable blindness rates throughout Israel have dropped from 33.8 cases per 100,000 (in 1999) to 14.8 per 100,000 (in 2010).
Now that’s something to really focus on.
